New GP Scotland is an independent website for GPs working in Scotland, which aims to bring together a wide range of useful resources and improve awareness of educational events, news and jobs in other parts of Scotland. It is supported by Royal College of General Practitioners and content is moderated by RCGP First5® Leads (more about our partners).
The idea for the NewGPScotland website came about through discussions between Elaine Taylor and Simon van Lieshout at one of the national First5 meetings in London. We realised that many faculty regions in England were large enough to successfully host a series of larger events and cover a broad range of topics, but within Scotland we needed to pool resources between faculties more and that GPs were often not aware of events in neighbouring faculty areas, particularly when the events were not large RCGP events or staff were not available to help to publicise them widely. We were also discussing the utility of websites in organising and sharing information and assisting the First5 lead in their roles. The conclusion was that a Scotland-wide web resource would be useful, and subsequent discussions developed our ideas about content, moderation, independant status and funding support
Simon van Lieshout led the development of the site with the assistance of £400 from RCGP Membership Liason Group and a First5 money pot in the North East Scotland Faculty, which helped to pay for Pave Graphics to assist with the excellent design.
It has recently been rebuilt on a new platform for improved speed and stability.
