RCGP accredited workshop 1 (3.5 CPD points) on self help for depression. Help you distressed patients and increase your job satisfaction with a guided self-help audio programme -. Positive Mental Training. Also useful for somatisation and sleep. Used in the NHS for 10 years and given to over 70,000 patients, this modular programme is evidence based,and often used by clinicians for themselves to increase their own wellbeing & resilience and reduce their stress. The programme incorporates the principles of CBT and includes mindfulness relaxation training. It is a skills based programme using many sports psychology techniques such as positive reappraisal and visualisation. more info here

The training workshop is aimed at GPs,and other primary care clinicians, community and liaison psychiatric staff. Introducing the programme to a patient can be done in a normal Primary Care consultation. Those who attend our workshops describe an increase in their knowledge and skills in treating emotional distress. All participants will be given access to unlimited free downloads by App and mp3s for their patients. This first workshop introduces the concept and practical issues and is supported by a 2nd workshop on the 8th February which provides an opportunity to consolidate the use of the programme. (totally 7 CPD points)
Each workshop is free to all Edinburgh CHP staff and South East GPRs. Otherwise £75/participant (£50/GPRs) +vat.
